BEYOND ZERO WASTE ACHIEVEMENT - DS Smith Recycling
DS Smith Recycling has made a commitment to achieve zero waste and has built a
network of more than 500 reprocessors to recycle the different materials collected
over the past two years. It collects and processes 5.4 million tonnes of paper every
year and has diverted a further 250,000 tonnes of other recyclate from landfill
each year, including plastics, metals, WEEE and glass. The company has reduced
the number of general waste collections by 11,538 across its customer base.
What the judges said:
This entry put the waste hierarchy at the heart of its operations, building a real
relationship with the customer to encourage more holistic thinking. They said: "They
don't just produce the same old solutions, but spend time asking the customer a better
question. This means that they get a better answer."
