Resource Revolution 2013 Sponsored by The winners 9/12 TECHNOLOGY TRAILBLAZER: ENERGY-FROM-WASTE - SEaB Energy SEaB Energy has designed and developed a micro anaerobic digestion (AD) system housed in a self-contained unit. The MuckBuster and sister product FlexiBuster are turnkey AD systems, which generate energy and income from food waste and other bio wastes directly at the sites of organic waste producers. They are designed to produce up to 55kWe (electricity) and 68kW heat continuously. For every 100 gallons of waste processed, the unit will deliver around two kilowatt hours of power, about half of what a typical home consumes. SEaB Energy's Sandra Sassow (centre) with ADBA's Louise What the judges said: They liked the concept of a micro AD system that could be installed in a transportable shipping container, offering a mobile and cost-effective technology solution. They were also impressed by the commitment to produce a PAS110 compliant renewable fertiliser from such a small system. Wallace (left) and host and host Oliver Heath What the winner said: "It's fantastic for us. I think the biggest thing is being able to start to change what is going on as the status quo. Everybody is used to having their waste collected, taken away and then dealt with in some form or fashion. We are having to educate the market that there is an alternative and that they can actually make money from their own waste." Sandra Sassow, chief executive, SEaB Energy Commended: The judges also wanted to give a special commendation to Northumbrian Water's entry for its innovative approach in using thermal hydrolysis digestion to recover energy from sewage sludge. Shortlisted companies: • Biffa IWM • Northumbrian Water • SEaB Energy • SITA • Solena Fuels
