TECHNOLOGY TRAILBLAZER: MATERIALS RECOVERY - Axion Polymers
Axion Polymers designed, built and now operates a shredder waste advanced
processing plant for end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) materials recovery. While
traditional metal recovery technologies combined with some de-pollution and
dismantling of ELVs can only just deliver the EU's current 85% targets, Axion's
facility is already delivering the 95% recycling and recovery target set by the EU
for 2015.
What the judges said:
They were impressed by the development of Axion's technology in the UK to deliver
over 95% of materials from ELVs, taking recovery rates of this resource stream to
new levels.

What the winner said:
"We're really proud to be labelled as technology trailblazers because that describes exactly what we do at Axion. We put together
really bright, young technical graduates with more experienced engineers and trial and test what is the best available technology
of the moment to do incredibly complex separations. In our shredder waste recycling plant in Manchester we've done just that."
