Working in a meat factory 'washing' sides of bacon in a special solution. Don't ask! What are the best and worst parts of your job? The best part is dealing with diverse and interesting issues. The worst side is managing some very challenging priori- ties and not always being in control of events. What's your dream job and why? Any job that allows me to do the things I enjoy and hope- fully do best. What's your most treasured possession? I think it is my sense of child- like wonder at the world. I'm 47 and still haven't lost it. Where did you last go on holiday? China. It is still a surprisingly very different culture. In the Hollywood film of your life, who would play you? Orson Welles – I share his appe- tite for food, drink and life. Reveal something about yourself not many people know I have two birthdays. What album is currently in your car CD player? I ride a bike and so I have to be careful. I listen to Spotify, so anything from Liszt to Lily Allen. What's your favourite film and TV programme? Film is Citizen Kane and TV pro- gramme is 1980s nuclear indus- try thriller Edge of Darkness. What quote or saying do you most overuse? I talk so much it's easier to say what I am never likely to say: "I don't have an opinion on that." If you ruled the world, what would you do first? I would limit the number and size of laws any government could pass in one parliament. What's your favourite joke? I like this story recounted by Valerius Maximus, the first century AD Roman writer: A Roman governor of Sicily met an ordinary resident who was his spitting image. He was amazed, because his father had never been to the province. "But my father went to Rome," the lookalike pointed out.
