The final transformer for the South-
West Link project in Sweden is loaded
at Alsthom's Stafford factory.
The device weighs 205 tonnes and
took two days to travel from the fac-
tory to the port at Liverpool, avoiding
weak bridges and using roundabouts
where the street furniture could be
removed so the lorry could pass
straight through the middle.
The South-West Link will connect
Barkeryd in central Sweden to Hurva
in southern Sweden, using HVDC
technology.
As part of the wider project, Alstom
will supply HVDC converter stations
