John Lewis to boost
volunteering as part
of sustainability drive
John Lewis has pledged to increase
community volunteering at its shops
by 70% as part of its sustainability
strategy.
The announcement that the retailer
will allocate more than 33,000 working
hours annually to allow John Lewis
staff to invest more time volunteering,
coincides with Volunteer's Week, which
took place earlier this month.
John Lewis says that an integral part of its
sustainability strategy, Bringing Quality
to Life, is a long-standing objective to
engage with local communities.
Each full line John Lewis shop
has a dedicated community liaison
coordinator whose role is to work with
local community groups and charities
to identify a range of ways in which the
branch and its staff can support them.

As well as volunteering time, these could
include product donations, financial
support and use of community rooms.
John Lewis brand development director
Christine Kasoulis said: "We take our role
as an active member of the community
seriously and our community strategy
is focused on enhancing skills to create
lasting change. By working alongside
charities and community groups we
seek to understand how we can best
support them."
