COMMENT eDitoR'scoRNeR New wave of technology I got quIte excited in the middle of January when the weekly D&WR Newsletter (if you haven't signed up for it, why not? It's free!) passed 5,000 subscriptions for the first time. This was almost exactly 4 years after it was launched at the start of 2009. The Newsletter followed the unveiling of the www.desalination.biz website in November 2008, which, even in last year's straitened times, still achieved over 3,000 visits almost every week. Now, those revolutionary changes in the way D&WR reaches its readers have become run-of-the-mill. So it must be time for another change, and it is! For this current February/March 2013 issue, readers can receive a digital edition of D&WR as well as the current paper one, so we can see what they think of the format and gauge how we can expand our information offering going forward. D&WR is piloting a new tablet- and mobile-friendly digital edition of the magazine, and seeking your views on how useful and beneficial it is to receive the magazine in this way. You can see the new format on any Mac, PC, tablet or mobile by visiting www. desalination.biz/digitaledition. As well as offering speedy delivery to any device, the new format allows keyword searching in an individual edition or all archived editions. It also enables cross-linking to other information sources and will enable us to include video and audio media within the magazine. Please take a look for yourself and let us know what you think by completing the survey at www.desalination.biz/survey. But the innovation does not stop there. At the end of April 2013, D&WR will be presenting the first of a series of technical online symposia providing topline speakers on subjects of vital interest to many readers. The series will be presented, like the magazine, in partnership with the International Desalination Association and the IDA Desalination Academy, and will allow desalination and water reuse practitioners access to the industry's acknowledged experts without having to leave their desks. Each symposium will have three or four short sessions, enabling you to participate live or on demand at a later date convenient to you. You will be able to ask questions live or prior to the event, and, if the question is selected by the chairman, the speakers will answer in a Q&A section of each session. The first symposium will take place on 30 April 2013 and will focus on Pretreatment for Reverse-Osmosis Seawater Desalination. For full details, including speakers, agenda and costs to participate, please visit: www. desalination-pretreatment.biz. We hope to greet many of you there!
