AMTA/AWWA MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE JOINT CONFERENCE & EXPOSITION l 25-28 FEBRUARY 2013 l SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, USA Largest conference dedicated to new membrane technology and innovations The American Water Works Association (AWWA) and the American Membrane Technology Association (AMTA) are again partnering to present the largest conference ever focused solely on membrane water treatment technologies. The Alamo Scheduled for February 25-28, 2013, at the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, the AMTA/AWWA 2013 Membrane Technology Conference & Exposition will feature an unmatched technical program with workshops, technical tours, multiple opportunities to exchange ideas at three networking receptions, and an exhibit hall to get a firsthand look at the latest membrane products and services. Keynote Speaker - Tuesday, 26 February 2013 Tuesday's keynote address will be from Dr Samer Adham, director of the ConocoPhillips Global Water Sustainability Center, providing a vision for the future role membranes will play in addressing the world's energy and water needs. Keynote Luncheon Speaker - Wednesday, 27 February 2013 During the Awards Lunch, Bob Yamada and other speakers from San Diego County Water Authority will feature presentations on the newly approved Carlsbad Desalination Plant. WORKSHOPS, TOURS AND TECHNICAL SESSIONS Workshops The conference opens on Monday, 25 February 2013, with five preconference workshops (two full-day and three half-day workshops). The full-day workshops are: l RO/NF Back to Basics and MF/UF Back to Basics (a two-part workshop) l SCMA-Membrane Cleaning & Troubleshooting for Operators The half-day workshops are: l Low- and Renewable-Energy Trends in Seawater/Brackish Water Desalination l TX-AWWA-Brackish Groundwater Desalination Program Implementation l Produced Water Treatment and Market Opportunities Tours Technical tours, scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday, will visit local water facilities such as the Canyon Regional Water Authority Ultrafiltration Facility and San Antonio Water System Ultrafiltration Facility. Technical sessions The conference's technical sessions, starting Tuesday morning, 26 February, and continuing through 17:00 Thursday, 28 February, will include the following topics: l l l l l l l l l l l l l l Brackish Water Applications Concentrate Treatment, Recovery and Disposal Industrial Applications Membrane Facility Planning, Management and Regulations Membrane Filtration Applications New Membrane Technology and Innovations Pretreatment, Post-Treatment and Blending Regional Issues & Applications of Membrane Technologies Research Forum Seawater Reverse Osmosis Applications Specific and Multi-Contaminant Removal Applications Student Forum Wastewater Treatment & Reuse Water Supply, Intakes, Outfalls For a complete list of the conference's technical sessions including times and presenters, visit the conference website at www.awwa.org/amta/ membrane2013. The technical sessions are complemented by posters covering a wide range of membrane technology topics. This year, the conference product exposition includes three networking receptions on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings to provide attendees with an opportunity to interact with manufacturers' representatives, see application demonstrations and ask specific questions about their company's membrane needs. What AMTA/AWWA delegates can see at the exposition AMERICAN WATER CHEMICALS Booth 507 American Water Chemicals (AWC), one of the world's leading manufacturers of membrane treatment chemicals, has continued its steady growth. At the start of last year, AWC relocated to a state-of-the-art facility with increased production capacity and advanced R&D, membrane autopsy and electron microscopy laboratories. AWC is currently in its 15th month of successfully pilot-testing its advanced new phosphate/silica antiscalant at incrementally increased pH levels with the world's largest water-reuse RO facility (70 MGD; 265,000 m3/d) in California. And most recently, AWC has released a new line of advanced MF/UF cleaners that are formulated for compatibility with a broad range of membrane materials. ARKEMA Booth 515 Arkema Inc offers Kynar® PVDF and Rilsan® Fine Powders PA11 for water handling applications. Kynar® Fluoropolymer is mechanically strong at high temperatures, chemically resistant to cleaning compounds and readily processible into pipe & fittings, valves, flexible tubing, nozzles, ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes (hollow fiber and sheet), and containers. Rilsan® Fine Powders have been used in potable water applications around the world for over 30 years thanks to their combination of low coefficient of friction, chemical, weathering and impact resistance. Carbon steel coated with Rilsan(R) can offer similar or better resistance to abrasion, cavitation and corrosion than 316L, while reducing costs.
