Speakers and sessions for the May conference on Water Recycling and Desalination for the Oil & Gas Industry have been announced by the International Desalination Association (IDA). Taking place on 12-14 May 2013 in Alberta, Canada, the conference will focus on water treatment strategies for the oil and gas industry. It will be held at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, a National Historic Site of Canada and considered one of the most beautiful venues in the country. The conference program will consist of five technical sessions and a round table discussion – a format that creates a platform for information sharing and networking between oil and gas producers and water treatment technology experts. The technical sessions will explore the different technologies currently being used, as well as those that are showing promising results, for the overall water management cycle on the various kinds of oil and gas extraction sites. Proceeds from the event will be donated to one or more non-profit organizations that develop water-related humanitarian projects in Africa and South America, where the majority of the population still suffers from drinking water scarcity. Ida launcheS reverSe oSmoSIS certIfIcatIon program The International Desalination Association (IDA) is to launch a reverse-osmosis training certificate associated with its recently launched IDA Desalination Academy. IDA announced on 24 January 2013 that it reached a collaboration agreement with David H Paul Inc (DHP) to launch the IDA Desalination Academy Reverse Osmosis Certification (IROC) Program. IROC is a 24-credit, 675-hour internet-based training program that includes both knowledge-based and hands-on proficiency certification. The training and testing will be conducted online, bringing easy access to advanced desalination training for professionals around the globe. The program may be entered at any time and is self-paced with the exception that participants must complete the 24 credits within a year from their entry date. "IDA is very pleased to announce this strategic alliance with DHP, a recognized leader in advanced water treatment training programs for 25 years," said Leon Awerbuch, interim dean of the IDA Desalination Academy. "Not only does it enhance the range of courses offered by the IDA Desalination Academy, it also adds an important online learning component to our curriculum – one that benefits both the participant and the organization he or she represents."
