ContRACt&tenDeRneWS Giant desalination plant for Pakistan port business A 97 MIGD (440,000 m3/d) seawater desalination plant is to be built in Port Qasim, Pakistan, by Aeromix Systems, a subsidiary of RWL Water Group. The US$ 775 million project involves the design, construction, operation and financing of a facility to serve the fresh water needs of approximately 500 industrial buildings in the Textile City industrial park. A similar agreement was signed between Aeromix and the Kararchi Water & Sewage Board for up to 12.5 MIGD (56,000 m3/d). These facilities are a significant part of efforts by the Pakistani government to continue growing their economy by providing key infrastructures to local businesses. Aeromix is structuring a financing option to allow the Pakistani Authorities to pay for the treatment plants through the purchase of the treated water over time. This is a unique offering from RWL Water Group that provides growing businesses and governments around the world with affordable drinking water solutions. The RWL Water Group also includes Nirosoft in Israel and Eurotec WTT Srl in Italy. Services from all three companies are offered to each RWL Water customer. First Middle east desalination job for Abengoa Spanish contractor Abengoa has been contracted by ACWA Power International Company to to build a 10 MIGD (45,000 m3/d) desalination plant in Barka, Oman. The project, awarded to ACWA by Oman Power & Water Procurement Co, will supply drinking water to more than 225,000 people. Abengoa, which acquired Befesa's desalination business at the start of 2011 and now operates that work under its own name, will be responsible for undertaking the design, engineering, construction and subsequent operation support and maintenance. The contract is worth US$ 55 million. This is Abengoa's first desalination contract in the Middle East. H2o Innovation wins Canadian and US contracts A 5,000 m3/d nanofiltration water treatment plant is to be provided for the city of Saint-Tite, Quebec, Canada, by H2O Innovation Inc. The contractor will design, assemble, deliver and install the plant, which will have multi-media prefiltration and a surface-water feed. Commissioning is planned for summer 2013. A second contract, among a number of jobs totalling Can$ 3.7 million (US$ 3.58 million), announced by H2O Innovation on 6 June 2012, is for a containerized water-treatment system for the village of Spencerville, Ohio, USA. The reverseosmosis (RO) system will produce 2,458 m3/d of drinking water from iron-containing well water. | 6 | Desalination & Water Reuse | August-September 2012 BEL wins Al Jubail desalination supply contract Al Fatah Water & Power has selected BEL pressure vessels for the second-phase extension of the seawater reverse-osmosis desalination plant in Al Jubail City, Saudi Arabia, which will supply water to the numerous industries located around the city. The system is designed to a capacity of 58,500 m3/d and is expected to be completed by January 2013. BEL will supply pressure vessels for both stages of the plant from its production facility in Murcia, Spain. The vessels are equipped with high-grade steel side-ports in a state-of-the-art multi-port arrangement. Aquatech gets US and China ZLD jobs A concentrated brine treatment plant for a Chinese fertilizer plant is to be provided by Aquatech in the city of Ordos in the Inner Mongolia region. Water scarcity is critical in the locality, and the area is under the threat of desertification. Hence, the pollution control norms are very strict, and a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) facility in local projects is a mandatory requirement. The engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project, East China Engineering Science & Technology, selected Aquatech to implement a wastewater recycle and ZLD system at the site. Aquatech is supplying two units - a high efficiency reverse-osmosis HEROTM unit and a ZLD unit. l ZLD water and wastewater treatment facilities are also to be provided by Aquatech for a 582 MW integratedgasification combined-cycle powerplant in Kemper County, Mississippi, USA. Aquatech will design, fabricate, erect and start up a complete make-up water treatment facility together with wastewater treatment facilities.
