IDA Hawaiian venue for AMTA/SWMOA workshop The American Membrane Technology Association and the Southwest Membrane Operator Association are to hold a joint technology transfer workshop in Hawaii. The event will take place at the Mekena Beach & Golf Resort on the island of Maui during 11-13 December 2012. A brochure and online registration are promised soon on the SWMOA website http://www.swmoa.org/Calendar.html Registration opened for AMTA/SEDA costs workshop Information and registration for the workshop on Reducing Costs at Membrane Plants to be held jointly in Florida by the American Membrane Technology Association (AMTA) and the Southeast Desalting Association are now available on the AMTA website. The event will be held at the Hilton Resort on Key Largo during 23-25 October 2012. Attendees will learn about energy costs and how to be more efficient, plant innovative alternatives, optimizing plant's costs and operations. Also there will be an overview of the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority's Florida City Membrane Plant, including a facility tour. The workshop will also highlight several membrane case studies. Details from AMTA via phone at +1 772 463 0820, online at www. amtaorg.com or by email at admin@amtaorg.com. AUSTRALIAN WATER ASSOCIATION AWA to hold membrane fouling master class Membrane fouling is to be the subject of a master class to be held by the Australian Water Association (AWA) in November 2012. The AWA, which is an affiliate of the International Desalination Association, is bringing together industry leaders in a high-level intensive class in Sydney on 7-8 November 2012, designed to solve water-treatment membrane fouling problems. Among those lecturing will be: Tony Fane and Pierre Le Clech from the University of New South Wales; Hiep Le of Osmoflo; Mariam Darestani from Sydney University; and Sophie Leterme of Flinders University; plus a selection of other industry specialists. Full program and online registration available on the AWA website. Places are limited so early registration is advised. MEMBRANE INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF CHINA Changes to IDA affiliations in China The International Desalination Association has told D&WR that it has made changes concerning its relationship with desalination associations in China. The association will be holding its World Congress in Tianjin, China, during 20-25 October 2013. IDA secretary general Patricia Burke said that the association appreciated its close working relationship with its colleagues in China and was looking forward to presenting its World Congress in Tianjin. "However, in the last couple of months, there have been two changes with regard to IDA's Chinese affiliate relationships. First, the Membrane Industry Association of China has been accepted as an Association Affiliate of IDA." "Second, due to some technicalities surrounding its organizational structure, China Desalination Association (CDA) is, at present, no longer one of IDA's affiliate organizations. CDA is in the process of reapplying as an Association Affiliate under its legally registered name, Desalination Branch of China Water Enterprises," said Burke. | 50 | Desalination & Water Reuse | August-September 2012 EUROPEAN DESALINATION SOCIETY EDS co-hosts international desalination workshop in Korea The European Desalination Society is joining with the Center for Seawater Desalination Plant to hold the 5th International Desalination Workshop in Jeju, Republic of Korea on 28-31 October 2012.
