technical knowledge and expertise from corporations such as SRI International, an independent, nonprofit research institute conducting client-sponsored research and development for government agencies, commercial businesses, foundations, and other organizations, and computer giant HP. The patents are wholly owned by SSI. Independent benchmarkIng valIdates approach SSI worked with independent organizations to validate its platform capabilities. In all cases, the independent experts had to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with SSI in order to access confidential but critical information needed to support their benchmarking work. SSI technology was benchmarked using a 378.5 m3/d desalination plant designed by Aker Solutions Power & Gas. Aker Solutions, recommended to SSI by a large prospective customer under NDA, provides products, systems and services for customers in the oil and gas industry worldwide (www.akersolutions.com). The Total Cost of Ownership benchmarking was conducted by WCI International (WCI). WCI, recommended to SSI by a large prospective investor under NDA, is an experienced consulting and investment advisory firm with emphasis on planning, design and implementation of advanced water treatment and membrane and thermal desalination projects, both domestic and international (www.waterci.com). WCI's benchmark testing compared SSI's technology with seawater reverseosmosis (RO) membrane and multi-stage flash (MSF)/multiple-effect distillation (MED) thermal technologies under identical conditions. Testing covered a broad spectrum of criteria, including: l Plant configurations optimized for lowest total cost of ownership l Standalone vs. waste heat fuel sources l Installed cost (depreciation) l Direct expenditures (operating costs) l Indirect expenditures (administrative costs and interest) l Multiple geographical regions, including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), India, the Caribbean and the US. TETRA Filters account for >10% of the world's water reuse capacity. - TETRA® LP Block™ lateral underdrains are ideal for pretreatment filtration at desalination plants. - UAT™ desalination systems are suitable for treating a wide range of salinity application up to 10+ MGD (1,500+ m3/hr). UAT EDI systems are offered to polish RO permeate. - MicroDynamics® microwave UV disinfection systems offer efficient and effective disinfection of secondary and tertiary wastewater effluent.
