20 ALLIANCES 2018 Cappagh Browne Utilities is among the older collabora- tions in the water and sewerage sector. It is fast approaching its tenth anniversary having been formed by Cappagh Contrac- tors Construction (London) and J Browne Construction to bid for sewerage repair and maintenance contracts with Thames Water. Southern Water's pipeline inspection works are undertaken by the company's Tier 1 contractor, Cappagh Browne, which engages with approved contractors on its behalf. This inspection work has seen Southern adopt a new system for storing its pipeline condition survey data on the cloud, where it can be accessed easily engineers and contractors. Once a survey is complet- ed, using WinCan VX and WinCan Web, the report can be uploaded to the central storage facility immediately. This facility means that if a survey is of particular Dwr Cymru Welsh Water's (DCWW) Capital Delivery Alliance (CDA) is responsible for the design and build of water and wastewater assets above and below ground in AMP6, and potentially AMP7, as part of the utility's current £1.7bn investment programme. Partners appointed to CDA comprise Skanska Construc- tion UK, working with importance or urgency it can be viewed by the engineering team within minutes of the survey being completed or if the survey is part of an ongoing routine programme the report can be uploaded at a later time. The system also allows the updating and continuation of survey reports that may be being either revisited or simply extended from a survey started at an earlier date. Paul Purton, surveying & technical manager for Cappagh Brown, says Arcadis Design and Consul- tancy; MMB; and Morgan Sindall, working with Arup. Galliford Try Infrastructure, working with AECOM, is a reserve capital partner. The investment is being carried out on DCWW's water and wastewater networks and treatment facilities. It will include a large range of engineering and construction activities associated with the "Working with our approved external contractors, the utilisation of the WinCan VX reporting so–ware alongside the new WinCan Web remote storage facility means that all CCTV reporting is achieved to the same recognised standard whilst being made available to our client as and when they need it, whether that is immediately or not. In many cases the condition and location of assets creates unique challenges. A recent project for the consortium has been the largest ever investigation of water conditions around the Welsh coast in a deal worth around £8M. The Welsh coastline is approximately 2,740 km, including the islands of Anglesey and Holyhead; the coast features a range of estuaries, steep drops and stunning vistas. The coastline is home to a variety of different ecosystems supporting birdlife, sea life and a range of human interactions – including the release of waste. The CDA has created a host of investigations along the Welsh coastline, and carried out assessments of bathing and shellfish water to determine whether further investments are required.
