10 | 29TH JANUARY - 4TH FEBRUARY 2016 | UTILITY WEEK Event Utility Week Stars Awards Manchester, 17 June 2016 The recognition you deserve Frontline utility staff are often unsung heroes despite the tireless work they do; the Utility Week Stars Awards aims to redress the balance and give credit where it's due. I n June, the acclaimed Util- ity Week Stars Awards will be back, and bigger and better than ever as we celebrate the crucial contributions of front- line and back office staff from across the utility sectors. This year, the Stars Awards introduces a new venue, new categories and some new faces on to our judging panel. Keeping the lights on, the gas flowing, and the taps running, is no mean feat. Every day, the people behind the UK's utilities go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver these vital ser- vices to homes and businesses. With the embattled position of utilities at the moment, we think it is important to show the other side of the industry. "UKPN was proud to win the Long Service Award for the second time running last year. We have many mem- bers of staff who have been with the company a long time and often see sons and daughters follow their parents into the workforce." Carolyn Nixon, head of communica- tion and engagement, UKPN "We were nominated by someone who thought we deserved a huge pat on the back in recogni- tion of the weeks and months and years that have gone into fundraising for the international charity WaterAid since 1981. The committee are all volunteers and so winning the award meant an incredible amount. The committee was delighted to receive the award on behalf of the army of volunteers involved." Jane Morland, corporate responsibility team leader, Northumbrian water "I was really surprised by the effect the awards had on our whole com- pany… it really made the whole team feel like they had achieved something. It was a lovely feeling. We are going to try for lots of categories this year so I really need to get my entries in." Denis Kerby, director of corporate communications, SGN Last year's Stars Awards saw a full house gather to honour frontline staff Awards who will be the bedrock of strong company results and regulatory outperformance..
