South West Water made its construc-
tion site in Abbey Park available to
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue
Service in October so they could use it
to stage some training exercises.
The 14-metre deep, 20-metre wide
sha gave the crews from Torquay and
Plymouth a rare opportunity to put
their training into practice in a rarely
available location.
In one scenario, an injured worker
was rescued from the bottom of the
sha by Torquay firefighters using the
site's 100-tonne crawler crane.
