Dermot Nolan will join Ofgem in March from the Commission of Energy Regulation in Ireland, where he has been the chair since 2011 and a commissioner since 2008. Richard Lloyd, executive director at Which?, said Nolan needed to make Ofgem "bolder". He added: "He should redouble the regulator's efforts to keep prices in check." Andrew Wright, who has been the interim chief executive since June, will support Nolan "to ensure a smooth transition" and return to his role as senior partner for the markets division. Water No exit for water firms Industry pleas to allow water companies to exit the retail market after the introduction of competition were rejected this week as the Water Bill passed its latest legislative hurdle. The Bill passed through its report stage debate in the House of Commons on Monday with no additional changes. Water minister Dan Roger on reiterated the governs ment's stance on a retail exit clause and its decision not to force water firms to separate into retail and wholesale companies. Rogerson said the government had not ruled out revisiting the issue of an exit clause in the future, but that it would risk "a bad outcome for household customers".
