UK Power Networks, which operates distribution networks in London, the South East and the east of
England, was one of the worst-affected
regions when gale force winds and
torrential winds battered much of the
country on Christmas Eve.
Around 300,000 properties were
left without power because of downed
trees and floods, which cut power
lines and shut down substations.
Power was restored to most of them
within 24 hours but 1,000 homes in
Kent, Surrey and Sussex were still cut
