ContRaCt&tenDeRneWs Parsons lands SAWS brackish water desalination job business Parsons Corporation is leading a joint venture to serve as the construction manager at risk for the San Antonio groundwater desalination program in Texas, USA. The engineering company, which will be partnered by local construction company Zachry, announced on 17 January 2013 that its US$ 86 million contract includes preconstruction phase collaboration with the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) program management and design teams, construction of all program components and six months of treatment plant operations. The scope of work includes 13 raw water production wells, raw and finished water conveyance, residual conveyance, three deep injection wells, a 10-MGD (37,850 m3/d) reverse-osmosis (RO) membrane water treatment plant, a 7.5-MGD (28,400 m3/d) finished water storage reservoir, chemical treatment systems, supervisory and data acquisition controls, and a new administration building that incorporates a public tour route, pilot plant and training facility. "Parsons is pleased to be collaborating on this important project that advances SAWS' sustainable water supply strategy by preserving potable groundwater aquifers and employing RO membrane technology to desalinate previously untapped brackish groundwater," said Virginia Grebbien, Parsons Group president. Ghana desalination to get inge UF pretreatment Equipment for 10 ultrafiltration (UF) pretreatment lines for the Teshi desalination plant in Ghana is to be provided by BASF company inge® GmbH. Abengoa company Abeinsa EPC has been commissioned by Ghana's state-run Ghana Water Company Ltd to build a 60,000 m3/d seawater desalination plant producing drinking water for Ghana's capital Accra and the surrounding areas. Abeinsa picked inge as its preferred project partner to equip the plant with UF as a pretreatment stage for reverse osmosis (RO). inge® is offering an extended package for this project also including the complete central header pipe and valve units provided in collaboration with the subcontractor Bauer Water GmbH. The UF lines will feature more than 1,400 dizzer® XL modules, and the complete UF system is designed to supply 135,000 m3/d of prefiltered water to the RO stage. The modules and rack components will be delivered to Ghana by mid-year and installed by the year's end. The seawater desalination plant is scheduled to start operation in early 2014. | 6 | Desalination & Water Reuse | May-June 2013 Aquatech sells producedwater evaporators in Alberta Aquatech is to design, engineer, supply and supervise installation and commissioning of a produced-water evaporator system for Pengrowth Lindbergh Energy Corporation's 12,500 bpd Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) enhanced oil recovery facility. The project is located in the Cold Lake region of Alberta, Canada. Designed using Aquatech's patented High Efficiency Evaporation process (HEVAP™), the system will treat produced water to provide high quality boiler feedwater that will be converted into steam to be injected into the reservoir as part of the SAGD thermal process. The HEVAP process incorporates a softening step combined with additional conditioning of the feedwater prior to treatment by the evaporators. This process provides the evaporators with essentially a scale free environment, in addition to lowering OPEX and LCC Life Cycle costs. The system, incorporating two 907 GPM (57 L/s) primary evaporators, will be shipped by first quarter in 2014 with expected commissioning and start-up to be completed by end of 2014. Flowserve wins pumps and ERDs for Larnaca desalination DWEER™ energy-recovery units and DMX high-pressure pumps are to be supplied for the 60,000 m3/d Larnaca seawater reverseosmosis (SWRO) desalination plant currently being rebuilt in Cyprus. The order to Flowserve Corporation was placed by MN Larnaca Desalination, a joint venture between Mekorot Development & Enterprise Ltd (a subsidiary of Israel's national water company) and Netcom Ltd of Cyprus. MN Larnaca Desalination will design and rebuild the existing SWRO desalination plant and then operate the upgraded facility for the next 25 years. "Flowserve's proven track record for efficiency and reliability of our high-pressure pumps and Calder DWEERs, along with a low overall cost of ownership and an experienced global project management team, were major considerations in being awarded this order," said Jim Quain, president, Flowserve Engineered Product Operations.
