IDA Northwest MeMbrANe operAtor AssocIAtIoN Nominations sought for operator and plant of the Year The Northwest Membrane Operator Association (NWMOA) is seeking nominations by 30 June 2013 for the awards of Operator of the Year and Plant of the Year. The award recipients will be announced at the NWMOA Annual Symposium in September 2013 (see below) and receive a plaque recognizing this achievement. In addition, the recipients' achievements will be mentioned in the quarterly newsletter and posted on the association website. Application forms are available on the NWMOA website, www.nwmoa.com. Annual symposium program in development NWMOA is in the process of developing the program for its Annual Symposium scheduled for 23-25 September 2013 at the Hilton Hotel in Vancouver, Washington. The theme of the 2013 Annual Symposium is Getting the Best from Your Membrane Treatment Plant. The program committee has determined that the following topics will be presented during the Symposium: Basic Applications and Overview MBR and Tertiary Treatment; Microfiltration/Ultrafiltration; Reverse Osmosis/Nanofiltration; Residuals Management; Math for Operators Lessons Learned Pretreatment Case Studies; Data Monitoring; Cold Water Applications; Start-Ups; Membrane Cleaning Challenges Interactive Breakout Session Membrane Autopsy; Strainers and Prefilters; PLC and SCADA Systems; Electronic O&M Manuals; Chemical Storage & Feed; Membrane Plant Safety Interested presenters should email: eventassist@nwmoa.com two more workshops for 2013 NWMOA has announced two additional workshops for 2013 in Pendleton, Oregon, and Salt Lake City, Utah. The Pendleton workshop, titled Bioreactors Operator Training, will be on 9 July 2013, while the Salt Lake City event will be a Joint Technology Transfer workshop with the American Membrane Technology Association on 9 December 2013. Details of both events will be available soon on the NWMOA website, www.nwmoa.com. south ceNtrAl MeMbrANe AssocIAtIoN Annual conference has an eye to the weather The contribution that membrane desalination and water treatment can make to combating the extreme weather conditions prevalent in the southern United States will provide a focus for the 2013 Annual Conference of the South Central Membrane Association. The event on the theme Water – In The Best of Times, In the Worst Of Times is being held in the Menger Hotel in San Antonio, Texas, during 31 July – 2 August 2013. The conference theme will focus on membrane technology, theory, and practice, with an emphasis on the extreme weather | 46 | Desalination & Water Reuse | May-June 2013 conditions, their impact and possible solutions. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: • Secondary sources • Conservation • Integrated water supply approaches • Case studies of innovative membrane usage in municipal and/ or industrial settings. southeAst DesAltINg AssocIAtIoN spring symposium brochure available for download The Southeast Desalting Association (SEDA) has a brochure available for its 2013 Spring Symposium to be held at Delray Beach, Florida. The event will take place at the Delray Beach Marriott on 16-19 June 2013. The symposium will focus on what is new in desalination and water and wastewater treatment using membrane technology. This includes ultrafiltration/microfiltration membranes used in wastewater treatment and as pretreatment to reverse osmosis/ nanofiltration membranes. The program features case histories plus hands-on training at the Palm Beach County Water Utilities System Water Treatment Plant 3, and an awards luncheon and membership meeting. The brochure can be downloaded in pdf format from the SEDA website. http://www.southeastdesalting.com/wp-content/uploads/ SEDA_2013_Spring_Symposium_Brochure.pdf southwest MeMbrANe operAtor AssocIAtIoN Association announces dates for 2013-14 The Southwest Membrane Operator Association has announced additional workshop dates for desalination and water/wastewater treatment membrane operators for 2013 and the date and venue for its 2014 annual symposium.
