IDA & Affiliates The International Desalination Association (IDA) has opened the call for papers for the technical programme at 2019 IDA World Congress on Desalination: Crossroads to Sustainability. This extraordinary event is designed to connect, inform and engage all participants. The 2019 IDA World Congress will take place from 20 to 24 October 2019 at Dubai World Trade Centre, hosted by Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), a globally-recognised, sustainable, innovative and world-class utility. The event is held with full support of DEWA's managing director and chief executive HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, and his team. Attended by public and private sector leaders, researchers, and academics working in the fields of desalination, advanced water treatment, energy, environment and project finance, the Congress will consist of a Leaders Summit, business forums, an exceptional technical programme, an industry- driven exhibition, unparalleled networking opportunities, specialised workshops and training, and facility tours. "The IDA World Congress has earned a reputation as the leading event for the global desalination and advanced water treatment industry. The Congress theme Crossroads to Sustainability, is pivotal to the varied discussions already taking place surrounding the growing demand for a sustainable source of fresh water in response to population growth, economic expansion, degradation of existing resources, the energy-water- food nexus, and the effects of climate change. We are looking forward to welcoming leaders of the water industry who will converge and connect to develop business opportunities, exchange ideas, and share knowledge about cutting-edge technologies and their progress towards a sustainable future," said Shannon McCarthy, IDA secretary general. TECHNICAL PROGRAMME AND CALL FOR PAPERS The technical programme focuses on a broad range of desalination and water reuse technologies, practices and experiences, recognising that resources and requirements can vary based on local needs, climate conditions, natural resources, and locations. IDA invites papers in the following subject areas reflecting the achievements and future challenges in the field of desalination and water reuse. There will be four concurrent streams, allowing for a total of 400 invited and submitted podium oral and digital poster presentations. Authors are invited to submit an extended abstract to be considered for inclusion in the technical programme. The subject areas are: l Foundations for Success – Policy, Finance and Market Challenges l Desalination, Water Reuse and Our Wider World l Seawater Desalination l Brackish Water Desalination l Thermal Desalination l Pre and Post Treatment Algal Blooms l Operations and Optimization Energy, Water, Waste Nexus l Industrial Applications of Desalination and Water Reuse l Environment l Innovation l Making Waste Useful l Renewable-driven Desalination l Seawater Mining Submissions are now being accepted and must be submit- ted no later than 31 October 2018 through the IDA website at wc.idadesal.org EXHIBITION By design, the exhibition area is at the center of overall Congress activities and floorplan, surrounded by the technical sessions, plenary theatre, dialogue hall, round table session area, lunch room, and networking areas – ensuring easy access and an ongoing flow of visitors.
