Prior to joining Cadent, Richard held a number of senior management roles in the commercial side of National Grid's transmis- sion business encompassing both the gas and electricity networks and running the commer- cial operations of the LNG storage business. Richard has previously been a director of Xoserve Ltd and a director of National Grid A ordable Warmth Solutions Limited. Richard was also a key part of the team which developed the regulatory framework, output commitments, and innovation strategy and business plan for the eight-year RIIO price control. Matt Rudling, director of customer services, UK Power Networks Matt has worked in the electricity industry for 30 years, ful‡ lling a variety of opera- tional and managerial roles - aˆ er originally joining the company to help maintain electricity substations, which led to him studying to become an electrical engineer.‰ The last 16 years have been spent fo- cused on Matt's passion of customer service and during that time he has been involved in major change programmes and initiatives which support changing customer expecta- tions.‰ His current role as a director covers responsibility for the team who engage with customers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and the strategic objective of ensuring the whole of UK Power Networks' business is customer focused.‰This has meant chang- ing as Matt puts it from 'an engineering business with customers' to 'a customer ‡ rst business which has an engineering product'.‰ Matt's role also includes overseeing me- dia relations, public a airs and stakeholder engagement, at a time when reputation is critical to the business' success.‰ Roger Hey, future networks manager, Western Power Distribution Roger has worked in the energy industry for over 20 years. Originally joining East Midlands Electricity, industry changes have led to positions in Powergen, E.ON and now Western Power Distribution, part of the NYSE listed PPL group. has included posts in design, construction and safety prior to becoming director of asset management, health, safety and envi- ronment at Wales & West Utilities. Chris has a BSc Honours degree in natu- ral gas engineering, is a Chartered safety professional (CMIOSH), a Fellow of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (FIGEM) and a past president of IGEM. Chris is responsible for Wales & West Utilities HS&E team, the asset investment team, system operation team and leads the com- pany's Future of Energy work. Peter Jones, technology strategy manager power grids division, ABB Peter is a chartered engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Tech- nology (IET) with‰17 years‰of engineering, commercial and business development ex- perience in renewables and future networks technology. In his current role with ABB he is responsible for the development and implementation of the local UK technol- ogy and innovation strategy for ABB Power Grids in the UK. This includes providing an interface between ABB and key stakeholders in the area of innovation, technology and research and development. Ed Gill, UK head of press & public affairs, Energy Networks Association With more than 10 years' experience of working in corporate, political and policy communications, Ed has worked with a variety of ‡ rms operating in the UK energy market, from solar farm developers to smart metering companies. Formerly head of external a airs at renewable energy sup- plier Good Energy, he acted as the com- pany's Westminster and media spokesman, campaigning for greater recognition of the role of distributed generation in the then Government's proposed electricity market reforms. He was also responsible for representing the ‡ rm's interests at En- ergyUK. Since then he has worked as a senior director in FTI Consulting's energy & environment strategic communications team and as an associate director in H+K Strategies energy & industrials team, before joining Energy Networks Association in March 2017. He initially trained as an operational engineer delivering networks construction and maintenance activities. Roger subse- quently gained experience in control room and telecommunications parts of a DNO business. More recently he spent several years managing the IT functions. In 2008 Roger was asked to bring together his varied experience and establish a future networks strategy and small team of specialist engineers. The department are responsible for the business's innovation strategy, delivery of demonstration projects and implementation of new solutions into core business activities. Maxine Frerk, director, Grid Edge Policy Maxine is a regulatory expert and thought leader on policy issues. Until 2016 she was senior partner at Ofgem responsible for all aspects of regulation of the distribution networks including setting the RIIO-ED1 price control and initiating Ofgem's work on ¥ exibility and wider policy thinking on the future of gas. Prior to joining Ofgem she was head of regulation at BT. She is now director, Grid Edge Policy, working as an independent consultant for a variety of clients from regulated companies through to consumer groups and charities. Bernard Magee, head of strategy and mar- keting for power networks, Siemens Energy Management Over the last 25 years Bernard has held several technical, commercial and manage- ment positions within the sector. He studied electrical and electronic engi- neering at Queens University Belfast and completed a global energy MBA at Warwick Business School. He is a chartered electrical engineer and member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
