So, when an emergency enquiry was received from a major water company su ering sewage failure, Sykes Pumps acted quickly to overcome the issue and prevent any serious long-term e ects. At the custom- er's request, a team of Sykes engi- neers worked through the night to locate and check equipment prior to delivery via crane lorry. Restricted access to site contrived to complicate matters, but the company's specialist vehicle eet comprising of 4×4 lorries ensured they had the capability to over- ride all potential di culties. By dawn, Sykes had delivered two ATEX-rated XFP150M electric submersible pumps which were suitable for use on a hazardous Zone II environment. The pumps were rated at 75kW and 55kW and were provided with the asso- ciated variable speed drive con- trol equipment – in addition to high-pressure hoses. Upon arrival, it became evident that additional drainage pumps would also be required to facilitate access for the installation of the wastewater pumps. Within two hours, Sykes Pumps delivered two drainage submersible pumps – a 9.4kW P3001 and a 22kW PX12 – which were quickly installed by local technicians. This instant response avoided possible sewage contamination which could have otherwise led to potential pollution from the spread of disease-causing microbes. The client was so impressed with the pump hire solution that Sykes' local hire manager received congratulations from the customer for the way in which his team had responded during testing circum- stances. Speaking afterwards, the manager concluded: "It's what we do. In this business we have to o er our customers peace of mind that we will respond quickly and appro- priately when required."
