Sykes sign off 160th anniversary celebrations by looking ahead The year 2017 proved to be, as expected, an incredibly busy one for Sykes Pumps – but it also reflected a very special period in the company's esteemed history. Marking 160 years since being formed under Henry Sykes' stewardship, the company has undertaken an extended period of celebration to commemorate the occasion. There is only one UK pump hire company that possesses the heritage and reputation of Sykes, so it was decided by the man- agement that some effort would be made to highlight this fact. Since the turn of last year, the company has embarked on a sustained social media and mar- keting movement to promote the date and subsequent journey the organisation has made since 1857. A theme of Sykes' success over such an extensive period of time is the importance the com- pany places on its members of staff. Activities like an internal bowling competition were sub- sequently arranged, with all employees competing to achieve the somewhat appropriate tar- get score of 160! The campaign to acknowl- edge this landmark date in Sykes Pumps' history will culminate in their attendance at the Hillhead exhibition in June. Famous for its live demonstrations, the quarry- based trade show in Derbyshire gives Sykes Pumps an excellent platform to display the latest equipment for hire and sale. There are even plans for an historic 19th century Sykes Pumps steam engine to be show- cased on their stand, which, unbelievably, is still functional despite its tender age! Although the 160th anniver- sary presents the company with a wonderful opportunity for reflection, the undying dedica- tion to focusing on developing an equally bright future is evi- denced by the very busy period 2018 already promises to be. 160 YEAR ANNIVERSARY 1970's pump and one of the first Univac pumps designed. Early 1930's pump still in full working condition, however not available for hire anymore!
