Web: aquatechtrade.com/china pre-commercialisation stage, and showing signs that it could lead to game-changing discoveries, was awarded to Raphael Rodrigues, PhD, assistant professor, polytechnic school of engineering, University of São Paulo, Brazil, for Direct Potable Reuse in Brazil — A Pilot Plant Study. l The Environment and Sustainability Award, for the best paper presenting a desalination or reuse research topic, case study, technology or project in a way that demonstrates how desalination can be applied while respecting the environment and sustainability principles, went to Sylvain Donnaz, BS, strategic development engineer, Suez International Treatment Infrastructure, France, for Sustainable Infrastructure for Water Reuse in Agriculture: The As Samra WWTP in Jordan. l The Young Leader Award, for best paper by a member of the IDA Young Leaders Program demonstrating scientific originality on a topic that is relevant and important to the fields of desalination and/ or reuse, was won by Nicholas Nelson, B.Eng, head of competence centre for water treatment, Omya International, Switzerland, for Techno-Economic Evaluation and Pilot Testing of New Stabilisation Process of Desalinated Water. The four awards voted for by delegates: l Sue Murphy, chief executive officer, Water Corporation, Western Australia, won Best Moderator, for plenary session Desalination in Australia; l Guillaume Clairet, H2O chief operating officer, Canada, was awarded Best Session, for Desalination and Water Reuse in Industrial Applications II — Mining and ZLD; l Daniel Baaklini, research engineer, Veolia Research & Innovation, France, won Best Presenter for his paper, Optimised One-Step Pretreatment Enhancing the Benefits of Air Flotation and Media Filtration; and l Val Frenkel, vice president, Greeley and Hansen, US, won Best Poster, for Desalination or Water Reuse. l The Emerging Leaders Achievement Award, whose prize pot is worth $5,000, sponsored by Almar Water, went to Steven Lam, new product innovation manager, Gradiant Corporation, US. l The five awards for the best papers were selected by the IDA World Congress 2017 awards committee, chaired by Borja Blanca. The committee members were Mike Dixon, Belen Gutierrez, Jochen Kallenberg, In Kim, Shawn Meyer- Steele, Manuel Manjon, Alistair Munro, Noemi Sanchez, Rodrigo Segovia, and Greg Wetterau. IDA partners with Global Solar Council The IDA and Global Solar Council have pledged to promote desalination technologies powered by solar energy. The agreement provides for the two organisations to share best practices and technologies in solar desalination, focusing on emerging markets and remote locations. They will collaborate on developing, testing, and demonstrating advanced, innovative, and energy-efficient seawater desalination technologies powered by solar energy. They will build capacity through joint events, advocacy, and awareness campaigns designed to grow a global network of stakeholders, and to pursue energy efficiency, technology transfer, sustainability, operational excellence, and economic development.
