The expanded Agadir
desalination plant
project combines
two schemes, a
drinking water plant
and a project to
supply the region's
agricultural sector.
Of the €309 million
($351 million) contract,
approximately €250
million is for the
desalination plant,
and €59 million covers
44 kilometres of
pipeline, a 35,000 m3
capacity water tank,
two pumping stations,
two loading tanks,
and three high voltage
power lines. The
project objectives are
to improve drinking
water supplies to 2.3
million inhabitants in
Agadir region by 2030,
to support agriculture
and tourism, and to
help conserve local
aquifers. The economy
of Agadir city, on
Morocco's southern
Atlantic coast, is
supported by tourism
and golf courses.
