ALLIANCES 2018 23 Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA), the AECOM, Morrison Utility Services joint venture, is one of the three consortia appointed to Scottish Water's capital investment programme, which ends in 2021. The joint venture is delivering a range of projects across the water network in Scotland including Scottish Water's £120M scheme to improve water supply for more than 200,000 people and businesses in much of Ayrshire and East Renfrewshire. The project involves the construction of about 30 miles of new strategic water mains, which is expected to take about four years. The pipeline will connect the Bradan water supply network to the network served by the Milngavie and Balmore water treatment works, north of Glasgow. When complete, the investment will enable DNM Alliance is a new alliance between Doosan Enpure and North Midland Construction (NMC). The joint venture was established back in the summer a‹er Doosan Enpure and NMC won a key role on Severn Trent's £300M Birmingham Resilience Project. The award follows the departure earlier this year of Severn Trent's preferred bidder -- the joint venture between Kier and Interserve Scottish Water to transfer water from Glasgow to Ayrshire, and vice-versa. CWA is now working on the second phase of the scheme with key project elements comprising: Construction of another stretch of water main approximately 13 miles long, installed from Amlaird Water Treatment Works in Waterside to parted company with the utility, with reports suggesting there had been disagreement over budget. Over the next three years, DNM is designing and constructing a new water treatment plant at Frankley to treat water that will be supplied to Birmingham from multiple sources under the scheme. The 'Treated Water' contract is worth in excess of £100M. The Birmingham Highlees Pumping Station near Dundonald Construction of a new pumping station near the Grassyard interchange at Ralstonhill, east of Kilmarnock. include stretches where the pipe goes under a railway line, near Crookedholm, and under a number of roads with road traffic management required. Resilience Project is required to support, safeguard and supplement the 119km-long Elan Valley Aqueduct (EVA) the Victorian-era aqueduct that brings water to Birmingham from Wales. A new intake from the River Severn at Lickhill Quarry will allow water to be supplied via a new pipeline to the works at Frankley, allowing the aqueduct to be closed for maintenance when required and providing a more resilient supply. NMC is already working on the project as part of the BNM Alliance with Barhale (see p14). Doosan Enpure and NMC are also working together on the £20M-plus design and build project at Severn Trent Water's Strongford Sewage Treatment Works. They are working collaboratively with Dutch technology provider Sustec, which is supplying its Continuous Thermal Hydrolysis Plant – Turbotec – for the first time in the UK.
