18 ALLIANCES 2018 ALLIANCES 2018 Barhale Trant Utilities (BTU) is Southern Water's React and Maintain Opera- tional partner for AMP6. It looks aer the day-to-day repair and maintenance of water mains and sewers and at water supply and wastewa- ter treatment works. The Barhale and Trant Engineering collaboration is one of the oldest in the water sector having been in existence for almost two decades. It provides design, construction and asset optimisation services in reactive and planned maintenance and capital projects, in both water and wastewater non-infrastruc- ture and infrastructure. BTU is also sole partner to provide mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls and automation (MEICA) across Southern Water's area. BTU, which has 200-plus staff, undertakes reactive, planned and capital mainte- nance and improvements of Southern Water's assets across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Sussex and Kent These include MEICA, process, water supply and wastewater treatment works and pumping stations. BTU was established as a joint venture in July 2009 to deliver a variety of services within the water industry, including the maintenance of key infrastructure assets, emergency response capability and the design and installation of high-technolo- gy process plant. A key BTU aim for AMP6 has been to excel as a leader in environmental innovation through the delivery of projects and through BTU's own sustainability and environmental management in relation to the beneficial nature of environmental projects, carbon and waste management, sustainable procurement, and employee engagement in the communi- ties which BTU serves.
