REGIONS 100,000 m3 /d, with a total investment of US$ 90 million, and product water was served as industrial grade and potable water for Tianjin Province since October 2009. Once Phase II of the project, currently in the planning stage, is completed, the total production capacity will reach 150,000 m3 /d of desalinated water. The plant (Phase I) was developed by Hyflux on a build-own-operate basis for 30 years. The offtaker is the Tianjin Dagang District Government. The project includes a number of neat engineering solutions, such as the use of power-station cooling-water to increase the feedwater temperature. This enables a minimum intake structure, and increases operating efficiency even in the icy Tianjin winter. Dagang has the largest ultrafiltration seawater pretreatment system currently in use anywhere in the world. In 2010, Dagang Desalination Project won the GWI Global Water Awards: Desalination Plant of the Year.
