REGIONS Caofeidian Infrastructure Construction Investment Co Ltd (IIC) was responsible for installing pipelines to transport the water to the distribution system. The project enterprise (a 50:50 joint venture of Aqualyng China (HK) Ltd and IIC) has a 30-year Water Purchase Contract (WPC) with the offtaker to supply 50,000 m3 desalinated water. Desalinated seawater, which has /d of undergone treatment, can reach Chinese drinking water standards. Additional offtaker obligations pursuant to the WPC include responsibility for disposing of brine discharge. The Aqualying BEWG Caofeidian reverse-osmosis plant The project was awarded in November 2009 and construction started on 15 March 2010. With a construction period of 18 months, the project was completed in October 2011. The site covers an area of 23,370 m2 13,026 m2 . and its buildings cover The project's general contractor is Hangzhou Water Treatment Center. The operation consists of five single-pass SWRO desalination trains. Aqualyng BEWG Caofeidian desalination project is China's first large- scale seawater desalination project to be designed domestically and contracted by a domestic company. Its completion and start of production is a new milestone in the developmental history of the country's desalination industry. In what may become a model for "green desalination" in China, developers linked up with chemical company Tangshan Sanyou Group to construct a combined seawater desalination and chemical plant in the Caofeidian industrial zone. Condensed brine was used by Daqinghe Salt Field and Nanpu Salt Field, subsidiaries of Tangshan Sanyou Group, to make raw salt. Tangshan Sanyou also produces chlor-alkali from the raw salt and extracts potassium chloride, bromine and magnesium chloride.
