BUSINESS PEOPLE PANGLISCH HEADS INGE'S RESEARCH DEPARTMENT Dr Ing Stefan Panglisch joined inge GmbH (now part of BASF) in Greifenberg in mid-April to head up the research and development department. Dr Panglisch was previously responsible for water technology at the IWW Zentrum Wasser in Müllheim, Germany, a prestigious research and consulting institute that has gained national and international acclaim. He has extensive experience in applied research and has conducted numerous industrial-scale pilot projects aimed at optimizing the use of membranes in water treatment processes. In recent years, his research work has focused on the sustainable deployment of membrane technology for seawater desalination and for treating pre-cleaned wastewater. TWO NEW APPOINTMENTS AT AQUA-CHEM Two appointments, including chief finance officer (CFO) were announced by Aqua-Chem Inc, manufacturer of membrane and thermal water treatment technologies. Thomas Gillcrist was named as CFO and Ron Shook as pharmaceutical applications engineer. They will report directly to David Gensterblum, president and CEO. Gillcrist comes to Aqua-Chem from CustoMatrix Inc, where he successfully served as a Principal in Strategic Services for the past five years. Prior to that, he held upper-level management positions at Axeon Water Technologies, Tech M3, Ionics, Microbar Inc and US Filter. Shook joined Aqua-Chem in 2011 as business development manager for the Pharmaceutical/Biotech and Beverage Divisions. He has held high-profile technical and management positions within the semi-conductor, pharmaceutical and biotech industries, specializing in the design, operation and maintenance of high purity water and critical utility systems. PROMOTIONS AND NEW APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED BY BWA Two appointments affecting the European and Americas regions were announced by BWA Water Chemicals of the UK on 2 April 2012, as well as two new vice-president positions. Erich Dawson Marta Farriols has been named sales director for the European region and Erich Dawson has becomes vice president sales for the Americas and European regions. To strengthen BWA's marketing and technology programs, a new vice president of marketing, Nozi Hamidi, has been added; and a vice president of technology, Alastair Sholl, has been named. Marta Farriols joined BWA in 1999 as sales director for Western Europe and developed the company's desalination program globally. As director of sales for the European Region, Marta will be located in Barcelona, Spain, and provide customers with water- treatment chemistries and technical support throughout the European continent. Erich Dawson joined BWA in 2001, serving as an account manager | 16 | Desalination & Water Reuse | May-June 2012 Nozi Hamidi in North America and then as director of sales for the Americas. Erich will be located in Atlanta, USA, focusing on the Americas, and also providing oversight support for the European Region. Shanozi (Nozi) Hamidi joined BWA in February, 2012 from Ashland WaterTechnologies where she served as director of global marketing – utility water treatment and commercial/institutional segment. Nozi will also be located in Atlanta, and will focus on the development of strategies and plans for the industrial water treatment and oil and gas markets globally. Dr Alastair Sholl was previously BWA's Director of Regulatory Affairs. He joined BWA in 1993, where he was instrumental in achieving EU and US EPA regulatory approvals for BWA's industrial biocides, corrosion inhibitors, antiscalants and desalination technologies. He will be located in Manchester, UK, and will head the team of water treatment technology scientists located in R&D and technology centres in Manchester and Atlanta. KMS HIRES SUBRAMANIAN TO DEVELOP SOUTHEAST ASIA MARKETS Koch Membrane Systems (KMS) has hired Ravichandran Subramanian as regional commercial manager for Southeast Asia. He will be responsible for developing the markets for all KMS products for both the Water & Wastewater and the Industrial & Life Sciences divisions of the company. Subramanian has more than 15 years of industry experience in sales, management, and product management. His previous positions include general manager positions at Keppel Integrated Engineering, an environmental EPC company, and EES Technology Pte Ltd, Singapore, a water treatment OEM, as well as account manager and large projects coordinator for Dow Chemical Pacific Singapore. Subramanian holds a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University and an MBA from Nanyang Business School, NTU. HURLEY APPOINTED PRESIDENT/CEO OF PARKSON Florida-based Parkson Corporation announced the appointment on 24 April 2012 of Shamus M Hurley as its new president and CEO. Hurley, who served for the last five years as CEO of Kinetico - a leading manufacturer of residential and commercial water treatment systems - replaces Zain Mahmood. Mahmood steps down as Parkson's CEO after five years. Under his leadership, Parkson has expanded its advanced water and wastewater treatment operations into new regions of the world, such as Korea, Israel, Australia, and the Middle East. He was also responsible for renewing and relaunching a series of products such as Parkson's best selling screen Aqua Guard®, its inclined plate settler Lamella® EcoFlow™, and its continuous backwashing filter DynaSand® EcoWash™.
