PEOPLE CHENG APPOINTED JOINT CEO BY TRI-TECH Chinese desalination and water treatment company Tri-Tech Holding Inc has appointed Gavin Cheng as joint chief executive officer. Cheng, 49, has served as the co-president of Tri-Tech since 2010, when he joined the company after it took over Beijing Satellite Science & Technology Co, founded by Cheng in 1994. He worked in research and development and project management at Beijing Test & Control Technology Institute of the Aeronautics Ministry from 1987 to 1993 after graduating from Nanjing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics in 1987 with bachelor and masters degrees. DESALINATION EXPERT TO ESTABLISH MASDAR WATER EXCELLENCE CENTRE The current editor-in-chief of the journal Desalination, Dr Nidal Hilal, has been appointed professor in nano-membranology (sic) and water technologies at the Masdar Institute of Science & Technology. Hilal, who has a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Wales in the UK, has been given the responsibility of working with the faculty to establish a Centre of Excellence for Water Technologies. Hilal has been a leader in developing and applying the atomic force microscope in the study of membrane separation and engineering processes at the nano scale. His research areas have included identification of innovative and cost-effective solutions to real-world process-engineering problems within the fields of chemical engineering, nano water membrane technology, water treatment including desalination, and colloid engineering.
