11 Carbon Reduction Initiative of the Year Winner Thames Water and Boulting Group For their effi ciency upgrade to a 90-year old pump system, which has reduced like-for-like energy consumption by 25%, and making the pumping station one of the lowest carbon installations in the UK. FINALIST: The Environment Agency has implemented Eric, a carbon planning tool that it uses on its Flood and Coast Risk Management projects. FINALIST: The Logistics Management Centre for Thames Water has created a central, cohesive team with a 'waste to product' ethos that is focusing on more than 50 areas of improvement across the business such as reusing/recycling unwanted items. FINALIST: Morrison Utility Services launched a number of innovative measures under the umbrella of Driving Towards a Greener Fleet. The aim has been to improve driving behaviours beyond best practice, and to reduce driving mileage and carbon emissions. FINALIST: Severn Trent Water is producing just 5% of its energy consumption from renewable technology, and generated more renewable energy than ever this year at 295GWh. As a result, its operational carbon emissions are at their lowest level since the 1990s. FINALIST: Wessex Water, YTL and E&C for introducing an initiative of reducing open cut construction and repair of existing network assets, in support of waste and supply renovation, by utilising 'No Dig' capabilities. FINALIST: Z-Tech Control Systems has reduced vehicle miles to 23km/vehicle using its own own mobile work tool for enhanced mapping, a move that has decreased C02 emissions by more than 30%. What the judges said: "This deserved to win because it was a novel way of preserving something which has become part of the region's heritage.
