4 The Quarterly June 2017 Water. desalination + reuse The Quarterly Desalination projects in Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia refl ect the rise of reverse osmosis technology in the Middle East KENYA Mombasa County to issue desal RFP Mombasa County, Keyna has issued a request for proposals for new desalination capacity to fi ve shortlisted companies, a er a total of nine companies expressed an interest. The county is tendering two desalination projects on a build, operate, transfer (BOT) basis: a plant of 130,000 m3/d in the north, and one of 30,000 m3/d in the south. The plans were outlined by minister for water and natural resources, Fatma Awale, at the Global Water Summit, on 24 April 2017. The project will be fi nanced through a public-private partnership (PPP), and Mombasa County has committed to help secure the land that it needs. $22 million Hyfl ux Utility (Oman) injected $22 million into its subsidiary Qurayyat Desalination SAOC, which is building an SWRO plant in Oman. Capacity at the facility in Muscat will be 200,000 m3/d, and it will supply Oman Power and Water Procurement Company for 20 years.
