CYPRUS Desal BOOT tender shapes up The Cyprus Water Development Department is to initiate a tender for a desalination plant in Kouklia, Paphos, on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis. The capacity of the plant will be 15,000 m3/d, and it will be built on the site of a temporary facility set up in 2010, which is now being dismantled. Cyprus wants to reduce its reliance on rain-dependent water sources in readiness for possible future drought. The temporary plant was constructed following an extended drought during 2008.
