NETWORK / 34 / MARCH 2017 OUTPUT MARCH Outstanding A partnership between Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) and the University of Dundee to transform SSEN's customer service has been rated 'outstanding' by Innovate UK. 'Mafia- like' "I do not believe that employees of National Grid and big utilities are in a position to act impartially in the context of the CUSC panel. As anyone who has worked in both a big and a small company will know, there are profound differences in culture, loyalties and thinking. It would be difficult for panel members not to reflect their big company thinking and the votes show this." UK Power Reserve chief executive Tim Emrich on the make-up of the Connection and Use of System Code (CUSC) panel. 49MW Centrica is to build a battery storage facility on the site of the former Roosecote power station in Cumbria. World record HVDC converter transformers have set a new record for 800kV transmission. Download ABB's FFWD newsletter, including updates on major substation works at Connah's Quay and Spittal, from networks.online "It is critical for the review of charging to be done holistically, starting with principles, identifying all the changes required, prioritising these, and setting out a timetable for when each issue or batch of issues will be addressed." New and smaller participants in the demand-side response market are struggling to voice their views on the changes necessary to network charging. Discussion at a Power Responsive steering group in January, held by National Grid, pinpointed the 'slow and consultation- heavy' design. £1,000 On National Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, 200 employees of SGN raised £1,000 for the charity National Energy Action by entering a quiz about the fuel poverty scheme run by the company.
