4 The Quarterly March 2017 Water. desalination + reuse The Quarterly Former Abengoa CEO Carlos Cosín emerges to head new water company, as Singapore pushes forward with water plans SAUDI ARABIA Former Abengoa CEO sets up company Almar Water Solutions, a new water infrastructure development company led by former Abengoa chief executive Carlos CosÍn, was launched at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi in January 2017. The business will focus on sustainable development globally, constructing and operating water desalination and purifi cation plants. It will off er development, fi nancing, design, engineering, and operations and maintenance services for municipal and industrial clients, as well as asset and equity management for investors and other third parties. Latin America, the Middle East and Africa will be its core focus. CosÍn (below) said: "We want to be recognised as a leading player in the water sector, able to provide commercial solutions to the challenges of achieving sustainable development. By combining water treatment services with a renewable energy off ering, we can also help to reduce costs and the environmental impact." The company's main backer is Abdul Latif Jameel Energy, which described the move as "a further step" in its renewable energy and environmental services strategy, building on the acquisition of photovoltaics company Fotowatio Renewable Ventures in 2015. $86 million Sulzer has unveiled plans to acquire pump maker Ensival Moret for €80 million ($86 million). The deal will close specifi c gaps in Sulzer's pumps portfolio, including axial fl ow pumps. Ensival Moret's business will be fully integrated into Sulzer. "We are very excited with the proposed acquisition of Ensival Moret, and we are looking forward to welcoming its employees to Sulzer. Together we can grow stronger," said president of Sulzer Pumps Equipment, Cesar Montenegro.
