UTILITY WEEK | 11TH - 17TH NOVEMBER 2016 | 5 The UN climate change talks, COP 22, began on Monday 7 November in Marrakech, Morocco. UN executive secretary Patricia Espinosa said the conference was the "crucial next step" for governments looking to put into effect the Paris Climate Change Agreement adopted last year. That agreement came into force on 4 November but many of the details regarding how to move forward "still need to be resolved". Pumpkin power Severn Trent has used its anaerobic digestion plant in Coleshill to produce electricity with leftover Halloween pumpkins. The company asked members of staff to bring in their unwanted pumpkins, which otherwise would have gone to landfill, so they could be fed to an anaerobic digestion plant to create clean energy. Severn Trent commercial business manager Chris Jellett said: "By using our anaerobic digestion plant we can make good use of those pumpkins – in fact one 600g pumpkin could power a lightbulb for 24 hours." Severn Trent's anaerobic digestion plant in Coleshill produces 2.4MWh of energy a year.
