Unapproved products are being discovered on water treatment projects nationwide in a bid to meet ever stringent budgets, new research from plastic pipe manufacturer Durapipe UK has revealed. According to the re- search 43% of the con- tractors, consultants and end users questioned said they have retrospectively discovered that products which do not hold the relevant industry approv- als have been installed on industrial projects. Half of these admitted leaving the products in operation as they were performing to expectation at the time, while the other half re- placed the system with approved products, o•en at the cost of the contractor. The survey results reveal 45% of current pipework applications for industrial projects are specified based on industry approvals. However, Durapipe said it is worrying that half of those questioned are yet to realise the importance of product approvals. "Products that carry the necessary industry approvals represent a quality solution that is fit for purpose and installing inferior, cheaper products could have disastrous consequences, both in terms of the inevitable repair and replacement work, but also the potential fines that will be issued." Portsmouth Water has, for the second year in a row, been named the top water company for handling customer queries and resolving issues. The water-only company achieved a score of 4.57 out of five for customer satisfaction, in Ofwat's 2015/16 service incentive mechanism (SIM) survey report. Wessex Water was ranked second with a score of 4.52, and Bournemouth Water came third with 4.46. Portsmouth Water tops customer satisfaction list Meanwhile, at the other end of the scale, Southern Water scored the lowest at 3.97, and Thames came second- from-last with a score of 4.10. Ofwat said the latest results show a "positive trend", with average customer satisfaction rising to 4.33 compared with 4.24 the previous year. Combined SIM data for 2015/16 to 2018/19 will be used to support Ofwat's decisions on financial incentives in 2019.
