United Utilities is three to four weeks
away from completing the tunnelling
work on a £6 million sewer bypass,
needed aer a 40 sinkhole opened
up in a road in Manchester last
August, washing away the road and
a 100-year-old sewer beneath. The
ground was too unstable to repair the
6-diameter sewer, so the company
decided to bypass the damaged sewer
with a new 130 metre tunnel.
