EDF Energy's Sizewell B nuclear
reactor has just celebrated its 20th
birthday, having first output electricity
to the grid at the end of February 1995.
The company estimates that in its
lifetime it has saved 117 million tonnes
of CO2e, equivalent to taking all pas-
senger cars off UK roads for 1.8 years.
Three thousand UK companies
were involved in its construction and
today it takes 550 staff and 250 con-
tractors to operate the plant.
