BUSINESS February-March 2015| Desalination & Water Reuse | 13 | coRpoRate changes INdIa'S IVRCL SELLS majoRIty StakE IN ChENNaI dESaLINatIoN pLaNt to dUBaI-BaSEd UtICo FZC Infrastructure firm, IVRCL, has agreed to sell its share in a desalination plant at Chennai in India's Tamil Nadu state to Dubai-based water and waste company, Utico FZC. The deal will allow the IVRCL to retire a debt of Rs 300 crore (US$ 4.35 million) and retrieve equity of Rs 150 crore (US$ 2.175 million). The company reported its tenth successive quarterly loss in the three months to September 2014 and is now under corporate debt restructuring. IVRCL has been looking to sell its build,operate, and transfer and build, own, operate, and transfer projects. IVRCL owns 75% of Chennai Water Desalination, India's first desalination project, and the rest is held by Spain's Befesa Aqua through a joint venture that was formed in 2005. WESt BaSIN hItS RECoRdS IN RECyCLEd WatER West Basin Municipal Water District in California has declared 2013-14 a record 12 months in recycled water production at its Edward C Little Water Recycling Facility. The plant produced 60,000 Ml of recycled water in the period. Earlier this year, West Basin – which serves Culver City – reached another milestone of 750,000 Ml of recycled water produced at the Edward C Little facility, which has been operating since 1995. The milestones in water recycling were pushed along by the facility's fourth expansion, completed in 2013, to up its capacity to treat wastewater from 225 Ml/d to 310 Ml/d. None of the wastewater treated at the facility is released into the ocean. aqUaSpoRIN SIgNS ChINESE joINt VENtURE Chinese water treatment company, Heilongjiang Interchina, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Danish water purification specialist Aquasporin and Chinese environmental engineering company Poten Environment Group to set up joint venture in China. According to a Shanghai Stock Exchange announcement the joint venture is capitalized at US$ 10 million. Heilongjiang has invested US$ 2 million in the venture with US$ 3.5 million from Aquasporin and US$ 4.5 million from Porin. The companies also said Poten and Heilongjiang were to acquire a 20% stake in Aquasporin valued at US$ 19.5 million comprising new shares and the acquisition of a current shareholder's stake.
