A
n environmental wetland pro-
ject in Cowdenbeath has now
been completed by Scottish
Water and promises to be an innova-
tive storm water treatment method –
and to boost wildlife.
The £8.7 million project involved
the construction of a specialised
wetland and reed bed system that
removes solids from and forces oxygen
into wastewater, enabling it to reach
a standard where it meets Scottish
Environment Protection Agency (Sepa)
requirements for the flows to be
passed into the Lochgelly Burn.
Previously, in times of heavy rain-
fall, the excess wastewater was passed
through a screened outlet directly
