Iberdrola has awarded Areva of France a contract
valued at around €620 million (£486 million)
for the supply of 70 wind turbines for its 350MW
Wikinger offshore project under development in
the Baltic Sea. Under the terms of the contract,
Areva will also provide maintenance services for a
five-year period.
The facility will be Iberdrola's first offshore
windfarm in Germany and its second aer West of
Duddon Sands, UK. It is also the first time that the
Spanish company will install 5MW turbines in a
wind facility.
The Wikinger site covers an area of approxi-
mately 34km
2
, with water depth ranging between
37m and 43m. Once in operation, the windfarm
will produce electricity for around 350,000 Ger-
man households.
