The group adds that it "is heartening to report a return to profitability in the Utilities division on the back of increased revenues". NMC says the group's secured order book for its current financial year is about £150M and only at this stage includes firm orders placed under framework contracts. These orders will increase as there is good visibility of the projected level of expenditure on the major frameworks. The construction market, says the group, remained extremely difficult during the year with reduced revenues on all non-water related frameworks and severely constricted margins on all tendered work. These market conditions, coupled with "an extremely disappointing performance" within the building and civil engineering division (B&CE), delivered a loss before tax of just under £6M (2012: £0.71M profit) on a revenue increased by 5.11% to £177.6M (2012: £168.93M). NMC says further delays and cost over-runs on two problematical contacts, both of which will involve major contractual claims, along with poor overall operational performance, contributed to a £9.51M loss in the B&CE division. The division has now been totally restructured under new management and the risk profile of future contracts undertaken has been reduced. NMC says NMCNomenca had "an exceptional year", delivering an operating profit of just under £2.5M last year, compared with £1.9M in 2012, on revenue of more than £79M. Severn Trent Water has reappointed the company for AMP6.
