The civil engineer, who has 23 years' experience in the water industry has just been appointed managing director for water, Europe at the US-headquar- tered engineering company. Heatley previously worked for Halcrow, the UK consultancy taken over by CH2M Hill in 2011. Gareth Heatley, said, "We are working on some of the most significant and high profile water projects, such as the Thames Tideway Tunnel and the Lee Tunnel. I am keen to build on the strong reputation CH2M Hill already has in this market and to grow our business in the UK and Europe." CH2MHill has worked in the UK water market for 20 years and has 3,400 employees in the UK and 30,000 worldwide. The European arm of the company earns more than £100M every year. Tideway tunnel The company is managing the multimillion pound Thames Tideway Tunnel on behalf of Thames Wa- ter (TW). This project, which is the biggest ever undertaken by TW will help tackle the discharge of untreated sewage from the capital's Victorian sewer system. The main tunnel will run 25km from Acton in west London, broadly following the path of the river, to join with the Lee Tunnel at Abbey Mills Pumping Station before taking the sewage to Beckton for treatment. Currently in the planning process, con- struction is scheduled to start in 2015/2016. Later this year an independent Infrastructure Provider (IP) is to be set up, with its own licence from Ofwat.
