The improvement work involved the renewal and upgrade of sections of the existing wastewater infrastructure near to the beachfront in Largs so that the network can continue to serve customers and protect the local environment for years to come. A significantly longer, screened outfall pipe, 220 metres in length from shore to sea, has been constructed to replace a short storm outfall pipe which was 80 metres in length. CONTRACT WINS Kier has been successfully reappointed to the Network Services Alliance (NSA) Framework by South West Water. The framework, which is part of AMP7 will begin in April 2020 for an initial three-year period with the potential for a five-year extension. The contract will see Kier continue to deliver both planned and 24/7 reactive services including mains network repair and maintenance, metering, new connections and developer services to 1.8 million customers across the South West. A new scope of works for AMP7 will now also include wastewater reactive network and developer services into the contract. ECS Engineering Services has signed a new Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Agreement for the South East with the Environment Agency (EA). It covers all coastal, navigation and asset works and replaces an older framework agreement. The areas included extend from Hertfordshire in the north, through London and the Thames Region to Kent, the South Downs, the Solent and the Isle of Wight. Water industry takes major step towards becoming carbon zero Water companies in England have launched a plan that will help deliver their goal to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030. Working with two international consultancies, Ricardo and Mott MacDonald, the sector will develop a comprehensive action plan detailing the measures the industry will deploy to achieve zero carbon emissions over the next decade. The water industry is the first industrial sector in the UK, and one of the first major sectors in the world, to commit to a carbon zero future by 2030. SES Water working with partners to meet leakage reduction target SES Water has recruited three new key technology partners in an effort to meet its ambitious leakage reduction target. The company is creating an intelligent water distribution network by working with Royal HaskoningDHV, Vodafone and Technolog to implement technology to cut leakage by 15% over the next five years and pave the way for more than halving it by 2045. Southern Water publishes water resources plan Southern Water has published its Water Resources Management Plan which sets out the company's 50-year plan for ensuring water resilience in the south east. An immediate challenge is faced in Hampshire where less water will be taken from the iconic chalk Test and Itchen river systems, especially when flows drop in summer or following a dry autumn and winter. A 10-year £800 million plan will see a ra of new measures including a reservoir to be built in collaboration with Portsmouth Water. BATHING WATER IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETED
