www.wwtonline.co.uk | JULY 2019 | 29 ABB ACQ580 ABB used the Water Equip- ment Show to highlight how augmented reality can be used by mainte- nance personnel to view service information about variable speed drives such as its ACQ580. Freeing their hands from the need to use laptops or manu- als, service information is displayed on a Microsoft Hololens, an augmented reality headset. This speeds up maintenance tasks and ensures that VSDs are back in service as quickly as possible. ABB's VSDs have inbuilt intelligent pump control functions, such as sensorless flow calculation, multipump control, level control, soft pipe fill and an impeller cleaning routine. OTHER TOP PICKS Next month: pumps and pumping systems THE DETAILS Whisspurr acoustic vibration reduction unit ● dampens sound and vibration from compressors ● compatible with all types of compressor● can be retrofi tted● four standard sizes, length 200mm to 450mm - width 142mm - hose tail 20mm What is it? Marsh Industries has developed a unique solution for a global problem in the water and wastewater treatment sectors, the 'Whisspurr', an innovative acoustic vibration reduction unit that signifi cantly reduces noise and vibration caused by diaphragm compressors. What's good about it? Designed to fi t inline between the compressor and air diff user, the Whisspurr dampens the high frequency pitch and absorbs sound and vibration generated from the compressor while enabling a consistent, unrestricted fl ow to the air diff user – the Whisspurr does not restrict air pressure from the compressor, nor does it increase back pressure to the compressor. What they say: Steve Boyer, MD of Marsh Industries and innovator of the Whisspurr, says: "For decades, noise pollution has been an accepted side-eff ect of diaphragm compressors used in domestic and commercial sewage treatment plants. The Whisspurr was designed to address this issue. However, the unit can be retrofi tted and can be used on virtually any make of sewage treatment plant." The Knowledge Products: actuators, motors and drives Atlas Copco ZL2 Atlas Copco has extended its low-pressure blower off ering with the introduction of the ZL2 lobe blower 11 to 45 kW range. Available in a variety of standard or custom con- fi gurable models, and with the choice of fi xed-speed or VSD power versions, the ZL2 blowers now provide the option of pure mechanical basic units employing dial gauges for pressure reading, or high-end solutions with in- tegrated VSD inverter and in- telligent Elektronikon control. Operation in high-ambient temperature environments or at high altitudes is not an issue. The cooling system and integrated safety and start-up valve contribute to trouble- free operation during the lifetime of the blower. WEG Motor Scan WEG, a leading global manu- facturer of motors and drive technology, has launched its proprietary Motor Scan technology, which closely monitors the performance and condition of WEG mo- tors via capture of real-time operational data to enable more accurate prediction of any required maintenance. The sensor is screwed into the motor fi n and there is no electrical connection between the motor and the sensor. The sensor measures vibration and engine temperature. The user downloads the measure- ment data via Bluetooth using a smartphone or tablet. The data is sent and stored in the cloud and can be analysed in more depth on the WEG IoT Platform.
