The initiative was introduced not just to help NWG achieve its target of eradicating water poverty from its supply areas by 2030 but to make sure all customers who need extra support are informed, engaged and have their fears or concerns assuaged. Winner: THAMES WATER, MORRISON UTILITY SERVICES AND M GROUP SERVICES PLANT & FLEET SOLUTIONS – MICRO AIR-VAC Early last year, Thames Water, Morrison Utility Services and M Group Services Plant & Fleet Solutions joined forces with vacuum excavation specialist Vac-Ex to pioneer a new 'micro vacuum excavator' to support the water company's smart metering teams and other small excavation works in the utility industry. The Micro AIR-VAC means the space needed to dig holes to reach water pipes, and the mess left behind, is greatly reduced, so work can also be done on pavements rather than in roads in most cases, while it also has the advantage of reducing the risk of striking other underground cables. Customer Service Initiative of the Year What the judges said: "This is an innovative development which could have a wider application, shows excellent team working and resulted in clear operational benefits." What the judges said: "This showed an ambitious, integrated approach, co-created with Northumbrian Water Group's customers."
