6 ALLIANCES 2019 ALLIANCES 2019: ANGLIAN WATER The Integrated Operational Solutions (IOS) alliance was created by Anglian Water at the start of AMP6 with an intended 15-year duration. Consisting of Morrison Utility Services, Barhale and Kier, in partnership with Anglian Water, IOS is delivering small-to-medium value and complexity Totex solutions for water and wastewater assets, with a typical value of £50 million to £60 million per year. Working across the entire Anglian Water region, it delivers the majority of smaller replacement and refurbishment projects on above-ground mechanical and electrical assets, including associated civils and building works; it also refurbishes and replaces key infrastructure including pipelines and buildings. Individual job values can vary from as little as £10,000 to as large as £900,000. With the skills to not The Integrated Metering and Developer Services (IMDS) delivery alliance – consisting of Kier and Clancy Docwra – was established in 2015 with a 15-year contract (5+5+5). The aim is to deliver a domestic and non-domestic metering programme, including the installation of new meters, the replacement of old meters, and managing three smart meter trials. The alliance is carrying out an estimated £200 million of work in AMP6. The smart meter trials have taken place in Anglian's 'Shop Window' innovation area based in Newmarket, and the intention now is to identify the best technology and then move to a wider rollout in AMP7 and AMP8. As well as helping educate the customer about where water is lost or wasted, smart metering can help identify customer-side and supply pipe leaks and is therefore a vital ingredient in building resilience as well as water only replace assets where necessary but also optimise existing assets and systems, recommend enhanced care to extend asset life and refurbish assets to restore performance, IOS is committed to delivering maximum efficiency and satisfaction for customers and is aligned to Anglian Water's strategic goals. The approach reflects the emphasis on Totex requested by Ofwat for AMP6 and allows project efficiency. Over 80 per cent of Anglian Water's customers already have a water meter, but reducing water usage (currently 133 litres per person per day) is a key driver for the utility. The alliance also carries out customer water efficiency audits and is responsible for the laying of new or diversion water mains and water teams to find the best solution to problems, whether those solutions consist of capital works or operational interventions. Alliance partners regularly share best practice, and openly discuss utilising the best people for specific tasks. This collaborative attitude is necessary to ensure the alliance achieves its efficiency targets, which have been set at 15 per cent against an AMP5 baseline. connections to new or existing housing developments. With the new Developer Measure of Experience (DMeX) being introduced by Ofwat for the 2020-25 period, IMDS staff will be the front-line contacts for many developer customers and so the new measure will be a key performance indicator for the alliance going forward.
