ALLIANCES 2019 19 CMDP, which sees Costain working alongside Stantec (formerly MWH), is one of Southern Water's three construction partners for AMP6, working in the eastern half of the water company's region to deliver maintenance and improvements for water and wastewater non- infrastructure. The five-year agreement was worth an initial £200 million to the alliance and involves CMDP working collaboratively with Southern Water and other delivery partners to bring together design, construction and commissioning expertise. The alliance has carried out a number of projects over the course of AMP6. CMDP is heading up a £22 million project to improve the quality of water at Southern's two water treatment works in Hastings, which has seen new filters installed at Established in 2008 for the sole purpose of providing mechanical, electrical and civil services to the water industry, Barhale Trant Utilities (BTU) secured a six-year repair and maintenance programme deal with Southern Water in 2009 and was then selected as a 'react and maintain operational partner' for the company's AMP6 programme. The contract sees BTU working with Southern Water to provide design, construction and asset optimisation services in reactive and planned Beauport and Brede. Six granular activated carbon (GAC) vessels went online at Beauport in May 2018 while the four vessels at Brede were switched on in October. The alliance has also been responsible for enhancing Knighton Water Treatment Works on the Isle of Wight and Swalecliffe Water Treatment Works in Kent over the last couple of years, as well as working on Vines Cross Wastewater Treatment Works and maintenance and capital projects, covering water and wastewater non-infrastructure and infrastructure. BTU was also selected as the sole partner for mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls and automation (MEICA) across the whole Southern area, providing operational support to Southern Water's MEICA and operational teams. The alliance was established to deliver a variety of services within the water industry, including the Tunbridge Wells North Wastewater Treatment Works. The Tunbridge Wells North project, worth £6.5 million, comes after permit conditions for the site were exceeded between July 2013 and July 2014 and involves the installation of new equipment to ensure the quality of the water that leaves the site is improved. It will also see that the solids that are removed from the treatment process at the site go on to be used as a fuel for renewable energy. maintenance of key infrastructure assets, emergency response capability and the design and installation of high-technology process plant. BTU is a specialist in pumping station construction, maintenance, repair and refurbishment, and offers the full scoping, design and install of small domestic pumping stations and large terminal wastewater and storm water pumping stations, while BTU's reactive programme involves repairing a wide range of assets including pumps, gearboxes, biological filter beds and telemetry works. The contract also involves work on wastewater screens for Southern, including repair and maintenance as well as new installations; one AMP6 project saw BTU replace the 45Ÿ-long screen at East Worthing Sewage Treatment Works that captures close to 400 tonnes of waste materials a year.
